Welcome to my web page. My name is Mrs. Tammy Poncin. I am an EL Instructor. I find language to be most fascinating! It is intriguing how it has been developed, why we use the words we use, the variety of languages, and the continuing changes and added vocabulary as the world develops. To learn more about the EL program feel free to contact me.

EL Procedures
English Learner (EL) students are identified through the following steps:

1.  The Minnesota Language Survey states the student has or had a language other than English at some point.

2.  Then the student is tested with a language assessment.

3.  The test scores determine if the student qualifies or not.

4.  The test also determines the language level of the student.

Testing/Assessing

The Language Assessment we currently use is the WIDA Screener or WIDA-ACCESS Placement Test (W-APT).

The state test is the Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners (ACCESS for ELLs)

The students are first screened with the  WIDA Screener or W-APT to determine services.

In the late winter/spring the ACCESS for ELLS is administered.

The language domains include Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.

The levels:

1-Entering

2-Beginning

3-Developing

4-Expanding

5-Bridging

6-Reaching

We work on oral language, reading, and writing, in correlation with subject content standards in Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.
